Living In Paris

french property news

Why do so many people want to own property in Paris? Well it's nothing new. For centuries people have been flocking from all over the world to Paris for its culture, its architecture and its continental way of life.

Paris has always been a cosmopolitan city and now its' foreign residents amount to around 20% of the population. This, and the fact that property prices continue in a generally upward trend, has brought Paris to the notice of investors, speculators, private buyers and retirees.

Let's face it, having a Central Paris postcode is a bit more up-market than one from Doncaster, Hilversum, Bucharest or Zagreb. Parisians, at times seemed ruled by numbers.

The arrondissements' number is often of crucial importance, often unrecognised by foreign visitors. If you're in the right arrondissement you will get the right postcode, (probably a hike in your banking rating and income tax bracket too), whereas if your address in the road next-door happens to be in another arrondissement you will be in the 'wrong' postcode. Telephone numbers used to be the same before mobiles took over and car licence plates and lots more.

The one thing you know you will get if you are considering buying property in Paris, whether for weekends, weeks or to live in, is all-year-round entertainment of your choice. The shows and cafes of Paris are famous the world over and are open all year round.

The restaurants of Paris are a gourmet's and a gourmand's delight, and are of great quality wherever you go. The French take their coffee seriously too, and wherever you are in Paris you can always get a delicious shot or two of really good cafe.

So, with an unbelievable amount of culture at your fingertips, fabulous museums from Le Louvre to the tiny exhibitions all over the city, and the wining and dining culture, all with a bit of Parisian panache, most people after one night, maybe two, in Paris are hooked on the place.

Property in Paris can be also a good investment. Whether you wish to spend quite a bit of time in Paris yourself or not, many people rent out their properties for much of the year whilst being able to have it to themselves' when they want to. With property in, or near, the centre of Paris becoming more expensive, so quite a few Parisians are moving into more affordable accommodation in more suburban areas. A lot of jobs are moving out of the city too, so most people follow them.

This gradual move in and out of the city can create periods when there are opportunities in the property market which may not be available for long, so if you see your ideal home in Paris, at the right price, you may think that the chance may not re-occur for some time so grab it, but make sure the lawyers check your every move, just to make sure.

No one ever forgets Paris, and all wish to return. That's why so many foreign people are buying property there.
